Our Commitment To Youth Employment

As many as 963,000 young people were unemployed in the UK between October and December last year, according to recent reports from the Office of National Statistics.

The figure, a whopping 13.2% of young people in the UK, is representative of those who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).

We at Cummins Mellor have always felt strongly about providing opportunities to young people, with many of our leadership roles being held by employees who originally joined us as young, bright-eyed apprentices!

It therefore only seemed right that we sign up for the REC’s Youth Employment Charter!

The scheme, launched by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) in 2010, aims to engage the next generation in the world of work and assist young people in taking their first steps in to the jobs market.

More than 200 recruitment businesses have signed up to the charter and are making a real difference to getting youth into employment and training.

“Recruiters have played a key role in supporting young people in taking their first steps into the jobs market,” said REC CEO Kevin Green.

“On the one hand, we have nearly one million young people still not in education, employment or training and on the other, businesses are struggling to find the talent and skills they need to grow as the economy improves.”

We are always looking for fresh faces to join the expanding Cummins Mellor teams, click here to check out our current internal vacancies.

“I really feel that Cummins Mellor is such a positive training ground for young people,” says Cummins Mellor Head of Recruitment Helen Jackson. “With three businesses (Cummins Mellor Recruitment, Chefs Jobs UK, and Personnel Checks) under our umbrella we really can provide the opportunity to learn a range of skills.”
