Annual BYZ Quiz Raises Over £6,100 for Blackburn Youth Zone

On Thursday 18th November, we held our 6th annual ‘BYZ Quiz’ to raise vital funds for Blackburn Youth Zone.

We decided to host the event online again this year due to uncertainty of having to cancel a large scale event last minute. Nevertheless, 40 teams entered and raised a whopping £6,160 for Blackburn Youth Zone, with the help of ‘The Big Give’ initiative!

The Winners

Congratulations to team Sharing (Services) is Caring from Forbes Solicitors who were the champions on the night and defended the company’s title for the 2nd year in a row, closely followed by Haydock Finance in second place & Sales Geek in third.

Richard Few, Sales Geek, was also the winner of our selfie competition with his wonderful dog Reggie!

Our very first online auction ended with Caroline winning the signed Andy Murray Tennis Racket too, raising an extra £400 for the Youth Zone.

We also want to extend a big thank you to Richard Slater of Lancashire Business View for making a guest appearance and inviting Blackburn BID, promoting their campaign to get Blackburn to City status.

The money raised from the 2021 BYZ Quiz will go towards Blackburn Youth Zone’s ‘Dare to Dream’ employability services programme, supporting young people’s employment opportunities – in the immediate and medium-term.

This and other similar initiatives are so important because they give young people the support they need to help them jumpstart their journey into the world of work and careers.

Our Chairman, Richard Mellor, said:

As with every year, we take our role as Patron for Blackburn Youth Zone seriously and with pride. After the past 18 months, we felt it was important to be safe and practical but still support our local community. We went ahead with another virtual quiz, but we hope to be back in person again next year!

The team and I would like to extend our thanks to everyone who signed up for the quiz this year, as well as everyone who purchased raffle tickets, and of course to all the people who generously donated the prizes on the night. Thanks to all of these people, the event was once again a roaring success.”

Blackburn Youth Zone is a 21st-century youth hub located at the heart of Blackburn, open 7 days a week to young people aged 5 to 25 years old, aiming to change the prospects offered to young people in the area.
