Who are SLYNCS?

SLYNCS facilitate weekly forums for young people across Blackburn with Darwen, delivering a variety of programmes aimed at developing leadership, teamwork and social action across the town.

The event was attended by 220 guests and theme of the evening was ‘Bridging Blackburn’ where young people used their skills and talents to raise awareness around issues within their local areas which cause barriers to integration.

This award recognises a professional that keeps our children and young people safe. The judges awarded the accolade to Hilary Ward, Education Welfare Officer and safeguarding lead at St Thomas’s Centre, Blackburn.

Hilary truly lives by the school motto “Everyone succeeds, no exceptions, no excuses”. It doesn’t matter how many meetings she has to attend or reports she writes, the needs of her students and their families come first.

The rest of the evening was filled with performances from young people who attend SLYNCS forums, demonstrated in moving and creative ways what ‘Bridging Blackburn’ meant to them.

Michelle said; “Myself and the rest of the team are honoured to be a sponsor for such an inspiring event, recognising individuals who are leading the way to bring communities together.

As a local business, we go to huge lengths to raise awareness of many of the issues which have been highlighted this evening and it’s fantastic to see young people tackling michelle slyncsthese issues head on to help others who may currently be facing them,”
