As an experienced and long-standing successful SME, the Cummins Mellor family of Businesses are extremely delighted to have been invited to deliver a Peer Networks business programme for ambitious & forward thinking SME owners and business leaders across Lancashire.
Cummins Mellor has been appointed by Boost; Lancashire’s Business Growth Hub, to deliver Peer Networks, a national business support programme for Lancashire businesses.
Peer Networks is for SME leaders that want to improve their business resilience and reach their goals by working with likeminded leaders and addressing key challenges.
In Lancashire, there are a series of Peer Networks cohorts, with each group consisting of 8-11 owners or managers from SME businesses.
Cummins Mellor is delivering Peer Networks: Peer Power, designed to help Business Leaders in Lancashire navigate the changing world of work. This is delivered through a series of high impact group sessions, with each cohort led by an expert facilitator.
Boost is Lancashire’s Business Growth Hub. It is led by the Lancashire LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership) and Lancashire County Council and supported by funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Peer Networks is funded by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) in response to a commitment made in the 2019 Business Productivity Review.
It is available to any small or medium sized business that has:
The Peer Networks programme will see us bring together a small, select group of business leaders from Lancashire’s business community.
Sessions will consist of between 8-10 business leaders, led by C.E.O Michelle Mellor who will facilitate a series of sessions with a team of business experts, to enable collaboration through structed, facilitated action learning. Together they will share methods, expertise and pool their experience to support and help each other through their current challenges, issues and business opportunities.
The Peer Networks cohort will meet fortnightly for 2-3 hour sessions over a twelve week period. Members of the programme will also have the opportunity to receive additional individual one to one coaching and mentoring, totalling around 20 hours of action learning and personal development.
The programme starts at the beginning of November and will be delivered both in a face to face setting and remotely.
Starting and running a business is challenging at the best of times and the business journey taken is the biggest one we will ever travel, learning from everyone along the way.
The current effects of the Covid-19 pandemic combined with a transition into a new trading environment with the EU has the potential to disrupt our plans and thinking further.

Organisations and their leaders may be facing significant challenges or opportunities, but they don’t have to do it alone. Find out more about the programme.
Starting in 1990, Michelle Mellor and her husband Richard co-founded their award-winning company from home. Throughout that time, they have grown and built over fifteen businesses and franchises, all which continue to remain profitable, ethical and successful today.
CEO Michelle is passionate about entrepreneurship, leadership and people. She has been instrumental in generating sales and ensuring great customer service by leading a team who supply recruitment and employment services to many industries across the UK from our three companies, working from Cathedral Quarter in Lancashire.
She has worked through the highs and lows of business ownership and management. From start up to succession, navigating many recessions along the way whilst building a family of businesses though placing people before profit and at the heart of every enterprise.
Cummins Mellor now includes CJUK, Personnel Checks and Cummins Mellor Recruitment. The IIP Gold standard employers also won Family Business of the Year in 2019 at the prestigious BIBA Awards.
Michelle Mellor commented, “I’m so delighted to have the opportunity to lead and facilitate a Peer Programme. Starting, operating and growing a business is a lot of fun but also extremely hard work. Being at the helm as you navigate the journey, can often be lonely and isolating. I have been so lucky to have met and worked with many wonderful peers who have been instrumental to me, building a solid trusted network which has and still is pivotal to my leadership, development, and business experience. We can all learn so much from each other, doing it alone is never a good option. I’m genuinely excited by the BEIS initiative. To have the opportunity to be able to give back to support and help bring the future business leaders of Lancashire together for their own business success is a real privilege.”
