The look and feel of our workplaces are changing, so we recently launched a brand-new dress policy across the Cummins Mellor family of businesses called ‘dress for your day’ (DFYD) as a way of empowering our colleagues.
Our DFYD policy means our employees can choose what they wear to work each day based on comfort, their personal brand and their schedule, whether they want to wear casual jeans and a jumper or more formal attire if they’re visiting a client with a business wear dress code.
Cummins Mellor is a vibrant, energetic business and our aim is to give our workforce more flexibility and freedom, after all, our employees spend most of their lives here!
Our work isn’t once-size-fits-all, so we don’t have to look that way either. The move away from formal business wear reflects our evolving company and brand as we’ve got everything from recruiters, marketeers and apprentices to salespeople, HR and financial professionals working here.
Katie Mellor, our Director, said:
“We love this policy because it gives our people greater control in the way they dress and express themselves at work. We want everyone to feel comfortable and happy whilst they work here.”
We decided to implement the policy after conversations around relaxing our dress code over the past few months and receiving an official request in our ‘ideas and inspirations box’.
The ideas and inspirations initiative gives our senior management the chance to listen to our employees and what they want, taking every single request and query into consideration to keep our people happy and connected.

This year, our family of businesses are honoured to be celebrating our 30th anniversary! In true Cummins Mellor style, we will also be holding multiple events and charity fundraisers throughout the year to continue our celebrations right up until 2021. Celebrations kicked off today with a gathering at our offices with food, champagne, cake and a speech from our Chairman to look back at the last 30 years. The annual BYZ Quiz Quest, held on Thursday 15th Novemver raised £15,170, which will go towards the Youth Zone’s ‘Get a Job’ programme, facilitated by the team at Blackburn Youth Zone.
