This year National Apprenticeship Week was on the 6th – 10th March 2017 and as always we were extremely keen to support NAW and promote the benefits of apprenticeships for young people and local businesses.
20% of the Cummins Mellor workforce are past or current apprentices and all play a fundamental part when it comes to the day to day running of the business with some of our past apprentices now in our Senior Management Team! We were approached by ‘Learn Live’ a couple of months before and asked if we would get involved in National Apprenticeship Week by hosting a live broadcast to schools across the county, giving them our top tips and a sneak preview into the working world.
Who are Learn Live?
Learn Live provide innovative, live, interactive broadcasts to schools and are passionate about integrating education and the world of work. This gives young people in our county the chance to communicate with local businesses and national organisations to take part in live sessions and discussions. Students get the chance to learn first-hand from business leaders, HR managers and industry experts about the world of work.

We hosted the Learn Live gang on the 9th March by using their remote system to connect with schools across Lancashire. Cummins Mellor Director of Commercial Developments Helen Jackson fronted the broadcast, exposing the pupils to the professional services industry and providing them with employability tips. The pupils also heard from one of our lovely apprentices Omair who shared his story on the decisions he made and why an apprenticeship was the choice for him.
The pupils had the chance to ask questions and also had a tour of the Cummins Mellor offices, meeting the whole CM team and giving them a sneak preview into office life!
The day was a huge success and we thoroughly enjoyed the chance to connect with local pupils and make them more aware of their options and the benefits when it comes to apprenticeships.
