Name: Natasha Ahmed
Age: 22
Joined Cummins Mellor: 2014natasha circle
Studies: NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration
Job title: Administrator

Natasha’s Story:

I started by studying NVQ Level 2 at Cummins Mellor. This involved working closely with the Cummins Mellor HR Manager and completing admin tasks as well as being the face of the business working on the reception. When I was working on reception, I had the opportunity to come face to face with customers and improve my communication skills. Whilst I was still completing my level 2 course, I quickly moved into another department as an Administrator in another department. This position was available and was offered to me by the department manager. I am now studying NVQ level 3 in business administration. This course is for 18 months and involves me working as well as going through assignments that involve business as a whole.

Whilst I was still completing my level 2 course, I was given the opportunity to move into another department as an Administrator and develop further skills. I am now studying towards an NVQ level 3 in Business Administration. This course is for 18 months and involves me working as well as completing assignments, provided by my college tutor who visits me monthly.

Roles & Responsibilities:

I am an Administrator within the DBS checking department, Personnel Checks. This involves in helping applicants to apply for their Criminal Record Checks and therefore is a huge responsibility.

My job enables me to get involved in all the administration work within the department. The duties that are involved are;

  • Checking application forms and ID documents
  • Taking and processing orders over the phone
  • Speaking to customers and resolving any queries
  • Dealing with emails and responding to customers on a daily basis

Why an apprenticeship?

When I finished college, doing Business and Finance I then wanted to do something more practical. decided to join a local training provider that offers apprenticeships. This was definitely something I wanted to do because it means I can study whilst gaining valuable work experience.

What do you enjoy about your apprenticeship?

The Cummins Mellor team make you feel like you are a respected staff member and not just an apprentice. I take on all the responsibilities just like the other members of them team, which is really helping towards my NVQ level 3.

At Cummins Mellor I am able to learn the different aspects of administration and speak to customers over the phone constantly helping them through our service. Speaking over the phone has really helped build my confidence in speaking clearly to customers and has helped my self-esteem. I am now able to speak to people inside and outside of work, a lot better.
