Preparation tips on how to secure the perfect job

Be prepared to make the most out of every opportunity – it’s hard work, but often just when you’re about to give up, things can turn around for you.

Know your career goals

What motivates you? Is it money, progression, culture or a particular industry? Prioritise your goals to help you plan for your next role effectively.

Don’t miss out on the latest roles!

Set up job alerts on employment websites using keywords, location and salary details to ensure you’re informed of the latest jobs as soon as they’re posted.

Prepare your CV

Don’t just have 1 standard CV. Tailor your CV to each role or industry you would like to work in. Then you can just fine tune to the specifications of the role you’re applying for. Ensure you have a relevant “Key Skills” section with can be made role specific.

Do your Research!

Showing that you know what is happening in a particular industry gives a good impression at interviews. It also enables you to ask questions about current trends and how the company plans to respond to them – showing a keen interest in your chosen industry.

Plan your wardrobe

Know what you will be wearing to your interview in advance – this saves time when you’re trying to prepare yourself.

Prepare examples

In order to demonstrate your skills, prepare at least 2 examples for each skill area. This will show you’re prepared, even if you’re asked an unexpected question. Keep your answers focused on the question asked.

Practice your interview

The recruitment industry can move fast, so you’re often not given much time to prepare for interviews. Ask a friend to do mock interviews with you. They can help you identify areas you need to work on and the practice will help you feel more relaxed in your actual interview.

Imagine you’re selling a product

If you find it hard to sell yourself – imagine you’re a product or service and sell that!

Monitor your online reputation

80% of employers check people online before an interview. Make sure your online profile demonstrates you as the ideal candidate. Ensure your social media profiles are made private or even closed down while you’re searching for a job.

Remember to value yourself

Don’t allow yourself to feel flustered or under pressure when things start moving fast and try not to get nervous before interviews. Just remember, they want to employ the right candidate as much as you want to secure the right job.
