Jobs Growth

Here in the North West, the latest Chamber’s Quarterly Economic Survey shows jobs growth of 25,000 in a month –  and importantly an upward trend.

Moreover, most of these jobs appear to be full-time. This gives a contrast between growth in jobs and the declines in GDP reported by the Office of National Statistics (ONS). Could it be that this is a lagging indicator?

Talking of the contribution that business makes, nationally, private sector employment increased by 205,000 in the 3 months to April 2012, while public sector employment fell by 39,000.

While the predictions are that unemployment will continue upwards, due to more people than ever being in the labour market, employment is also predicted to continue to rise.
