My client is an established provider of weighing equipment and software solutions, predominantly for the food manufacturing industry. With a strong UK and export portfolio, they work with a number of blue chip companies including Warburton’s, Hovis, Tesco’s, Sainsbury’s and Marks and Spencer’s. A people focused company, they now have an exciting requirement for an Applications Sales Engineer Manager to join the team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and growing company, we are strategically planning for growth within the checkweigher and combination sector and this role is seen as a key element within the plan.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Head of Technical Services, this is a new role developed to continue the growth within the checkweigher and combination product area.

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Technical and Sales Team providing a point of contact for clients internal and external providing both pre and after-sales advice. Liaising regularly with other members of the sales team and colleagues from a range of departments, including: Design and Development, Purchasing, Production, Quality, Senior Company Managers.

You will be required to:

  • Establish new, and maintain existing, relationships with customers
  • Manage and interpret customer requirements
  • Support the Sales Team in terms of technical knowledge
  • Consult with and advise clients how a product or service will best satisfy their needs
  • Look at and be aware of the latest developments in software and hardware changes in order to keep the product ranges up to speed within the market place
  • Calculate client quotations and Negotiate tender and contract terms
  • Offer after-sales support services
  • Analyse costs and sales with the aim to drive costs down
  • Prepare reports for Head Office
  • Record and maintain client contact data
  • Co-ordinate sales projects
  • Support marketing by attending trade shows, conferences and other marketing events
  • Make technical presentations and demonstrate how a product will meet client needs
  • Provide pre-sales technical assistance and product education
  • Liaise with other members of the sales team and other technical experts
  • Solve client problems
  • Help in the design of custom-made products
  • Provide training and producing support material for the sales team
  • Head up a production cell of 3 people

The Successful Candidate

It is essential the candidate has the necessary Checkweigher product knowledge as well as industry knowledge and relevant contacts to ensure the successful candidate quickly makes a real contribution to the company.

You will:

  • Be qualified to Degree or HND level within an Engineering discipline
  • Have a solid technical background
  • Have a working an proven knowledge of Checkweigh equipment and systems and the combination units
  • Be aware of the M&S and Tesco standards
  • Need strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Have strong sales and communication skills
  • Possess sound commercial judgement and good business sense
  • Have strong organisational skills
  • Have the ability to build relationships quickly and effectively and be able to work well within a team
  • Possess resilience and tenacity and be independent and self-reliant
