My client seeks a driven and ambitious science graduate to join their expanding laboratory team. As the UKs leading manufacturer in their field, our client’s continued growth now demands an additional member to join their small quality control and development team. The successful candidate will have a degree in Chemistry or a similar scientific field and will work closely with their Laboratory Manager to hone and develop their skills in this specialist field.

Responsibilities will include all aspects of sample processing, preparation for analysis and reporting of results as well as actively participating within alternative raw material evaluations related to finished goods (Powder/liquid/pastes). The successful candidate will also be required to undertake Research and Development projects to ensure the laboratory function delivers new product developments on time and fit for purpose, in line with the annual business plans to ensure the future growth of the business.

As a Laboratory Technician your role will include

  • Conducting standardised Quality Control analysis on manufactured products
  • Maintaining QC batch records in accordance with standardised practice
  • Preparing samples for analysis
  • Undertaking evaluation of competitive products and alternative raw materials
  • Supporting the Laboratory Manager towards customer focused activities such as identification of insects, fungi and salts
  • Work with the Laboratory Manager to maintain or develop and implement “best practices” in product quality and various other quality initiatives as they may arise
  • Providing technical support to the operations in order to address problems and assist with the development of the most efficient production processes
  • Providing professional support to the sales function and customers in all areas that require technical solutions
  • Supporting the Laboratory Manager to ensure all Key Performance Indicators are correctly reported at the required intervals along with a monthly quality report on progress and issues that are current
  • General laboratory and administrative tasks

The ideal Laboratory Technician must have;

  • A degree qualification in Chemistry, Material Science or related field
  • Strong analytical skills
  • A dedicated, well organised and methodical working style with strict attention to detail
  • The ability to work in a small team environment
  • The ability to work to strict deadlines
  • Problem solving and multi-tasking skills
  • The ability to effectively use computer software (Excel, Word, etc)
  • Previous QC laboratory experience (not essential)
  • Awareness of Health & Safety in a lab environment
  • A neat and tidy working style, both in practical work and reporting
