My client seeks an ambitious and driven Assistant Accountant to support their expanding finance team. Due to a prolonged period of change, they seek an experienced accounts professional to join their team of three and support the company Finance Manager.

My client is a leading charitable organisation based in Central Lancashire and they can offer the opportunity to put a real stamp on the charities’ financial future. A complex financial operation, the charity requires a skilled accountancy professional with a desire to learn quickly and work in a pragmatic, focussed way. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, problem solver and must be a quick learner. You will work closely with the company Finance Manager to provide financial information, reports and forecasts. 

An interim role in the first instance, the assignment will initially be on a 3 month temporary basis with a view to a permanent role being offered for the right candidate. The successful candidate will be proactive, positive and proficient in all core accounts practices including bank reconciliation, accruals and pre-payments and assisting the Finance Manager with the preparation of monthly management accounts.

The main duties of the Assistant Accountant would include:

  • Assisting the Finance Manager to produce monthly management accounts
  • Reconciling daily cash postings
  • Completing bank reconciliations
  • Assisting the wider team with monthly invoicing for the major accounts
  • Completing BACS payments
  • Posting journal entries
  • Preparing VAT returns
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register
  • Supporting the Finance Manager with the production of budgets and forecasts, profit & loss and cash flow statements
  • Reviewing nominal analysis and comparing to budgets
  • Month-end balance sheet reconciliations
  • Taking responsibility of the trial balance

The ideal Assistant Accountant will need the following knowledge & skills:

  • A recognised AAT or CIMA qualification is desirable, but those holding a wealth of experience in Accounts and Finance will be considered
  • Sound knowledge and experience of working in an Accounting function
  • Experience of working with Sage 50
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and have a strong sense of urgency
  • Must be articulate and confident, be a team player with a real “can do” attitude
  • A natural leader of people with the ability to support and guide colleagues
  • A keen problem solver, with a strong ability to multi-task
