Our client seeks a highly analytical and detail orientated individual to work as part of their busy finance team. The role arises in a rapidly expanding business who have a long, successful history spanning over 120 years and are a market leader in their field.

Our client is looking to recruit an ambitious and visionary Assistant Accountant to support the Financial Controller in their expanding finance team. The successful candidate will be a shrewd planner, highly analytical, able to spot trends and have a keen eye for detail with the ambition to support the finance team during an exciting time of growth for the company.

As Assistant Accountant, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day financial operation of this company under the direction of the Financial Controller. The role includes all aspects of finance from credit control, sales and purchase ledger, to production of monthly management accounts.

As Assistant Accountant your responsibilities will include:

  • Reporting to the Finance Manager and assisting with the day to day management of the accounts and finance function
  • Preparing financial documents such as invoices, bills, and accounts payable and receivable
  • Responsibility for journals and final nominal ledger balances including review of month end balance sheet reconciliations and control accounts
  • Support Financial Controller in the preparation and consolidation of annual budgets, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow planning
  • Liaising with Head of Finance to produce monthly Management Accounts
  • Liaising with customers, responding to enquiries from clients and investigating where appropriate
  • Assist with budgets, company ledgers, completing bank reconciliation and managing day-to-day transactions
  • Reporting on debtors and creditors, handling accruals and prepayments
  • Sorting financial documents and posting them to the proper accounts

The ideal Assistant Accountant must;

  • Ideally have a recognised AAT qualification; but those holding a wealth experience in Accounts and Finance will be considered
  • Sound knowledge and experience of working in an Accounting function
  • Knowledge of Orderwise is preferred but not essential
  • Computer literate and able to produce correspondence and documents using a variety of software including Microsoft Excel; Vlookup/pivot tables
  • Foreign currency transaction experience would be desirable but not essential
  • Proactive and pragmatic with a hands on approach
  • Resilient and able to work under pressure
  • Excellent in their attention to detail and accuracy
  • Confident and experienced working within a team
