Alice’s Story

I started as a Modern Apprentice with Cummins Mellor Recruitment on the 11th August 2008 as a nervous 16-year-old.

I wanted to start a Business Administration apprenticeship and contacted Training 2000 to help me find a suitable position. Luckily at the time, Cummins Mellor were looking for a new Modern Apprentice. After one interview, I was offered the position and started the Monday after I turned 16! I was extremely nervous but the team made me feel so welcome straight away.

Originally I worked in the Wilkinson Hindle department – specialising in helping experienced Recruitment Consultants find work within the Recruitment Industry (more commonly known as ‘Rec to Rec’). I worked in this department for almost a year, helping out with administration and filing, etc.

I was then appointed to work within another division of the business, assisting Recruitment Consultants with their admin and such. Here I was helping to find candidates jobs in Administration, Industrial and Accountancy roles. Whilst in this department, Michelle (the Managing Director) was busy developing the DBS Check division of the company called Personnel Checks.

After a year of working on this, Personnel Checks had grown into a really successful division and there was a spot for another member of the team, dealing with help admin and customer service, and that’s how my role started in Personnel Checks!

I was asked to join this newly developed division and immediately loved it. I have been working in Personnel Checks since 2010, and I’m now the Operations Manager, ensuring all elements of the process within the department are covered and at the highest standards. The main aim in our department is to provide excellent customer service whilst ensuring DBS Checks are completed as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I’ve always lived in Accrington with my parents, brother and dogs and love that I work for a local company. I’ve had some incredible experiences with the Cummins Mellor team. The main achievement for me was completing the Snowdonia Challenge for charity; climbing mount Snowden (3,500 ft), cycling 40 miles and canoeing. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but such an amazing experience and we raised over £2000! It was so great to be able to do this with my colleagues at Cummins Mellor and share the experience with them.

My goal in life is to work as hard as possible to be as successful as I can – I want to continue learning new things to gain as much experience as possible. I love new experiences, meeting new people and pushing myself to achieve new things.
