The Cummins Mellor Group can offer criminal record checks across the following levels:
This level of check can be applied for by both individuals and companies and is sometimes referred to as a Basic DBS check. A Basic Disclosure is carried out by the Government organisation ‘Disclosure Scotland’.
With the applicant’s consent, employers are able to check for any unspent convictions on an applicant’s criminal record in order to make an informed hiring decision and prevent the hiring of unsuitable candidates around vulnerable groups.
All applications for a Basic Disclosure check are processed through the Police National Computer (PNC) and the Scottish Criminal History System (CHS) and search for any details of convictions considered “unspent” under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
STANDARD DBS CHECK
A standard DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is an in-depth background check used by employers on behalf of their applicants to verify if a candidate is suitable to hire for work in a specific industry. The check will show details of all cautions, warnings, reprimands, as well as all spent and unspent convictions held on an individual’s criminal record.
This level of DBS check is only available to organisations to access on behalf of their employees; an individual cannot apply for a check on themselves. Once the application has been processed, the certificate will be sent directly to the applicant.
ENHANCED DBS CHECK
An Enhanced DBS check is the highest level of check available. This level of check can be obtained for positions that work with children or vulnerable groups.
This level of check will show full details of an individual’s criminal record, including Cautions, Warnings, Reprimands, and spent and unspent convictions. It can also search the children and vulnerable adults ‘barred list’ to see if the applicant is prohibited from working with these groups. Local police can also add any relevant information they hold about the applicant.
